Goal & Purpose
The goal of this project was to redesign and create three variations of the book jacket for the 7th edition of History of Graphic Design by Philip B. Meggs and Alston W. Purvis. I took this opportunity to experiment with various colors, patterns, and styles, creating a unique design for each book jacket. Although my three designs differ a great amount, I still wanted them to adhere to the status of a graphic design book; something experimental and visually appealing, while at the same time, professional.
Cover 1
I wanted to experiment with large letterforms for my first cover, so I isolated the letters in 'Meggs' and placed them in large, individual squares throughout. There is a prominent gradient accompanied by black. I thought the black helps to balance out the gradient since it is quite vibrant. Overall, this cover is a bold design statement because of the experimentation and innovative way of arranging the letterforms, as well as the bold color choices.

Cover 2
For the second cover, I tried to manipulate the letterforms so each row of type connects to the other in some way, so I exaggerated some of the forms of the letters. It creates an interesting and captivating look for the book title, while providing an example of innovative design at its core.

Cover 3
Finally, in the last cover, I experimented a lot with blending modes to create an interesting blend of colors and patterns with the images included in the book. The result is mostly abstract with some typographic elements that can be discerned.
